- Season 1
In this particular episode of Stories Untold, we focus on local public transportation. In 2013, South Africa introduced to its first e-hailing service, which seemed like the crack of dawn for many pedestrians in the country. Despite the convenience that comes with the e-hailing industry, e-hailing drivers find themselves in compromised positions in terms of their safety and profits. Before the introduction of e-hailing services in South Africa, metered taxis were the sole providers of on-demand transport services to the general public. The introduction of e-hailing in South Africa caused a lot of friction between e-hailing drivers and metered taxi drivers. E-Hailing Partners Council (EPCO) is an organisation that was formed in 2022 to empower drivers in the e-hailing industry.
