DA leader John Steenhuisen has softened his approach to the President signing the BELA bill. He previously threatened that signing it would risk the stability of the GNU. The party's Federal Council member, Willie Aucamp, emphasises the need to protect the GNU. And ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says land expropriation without compensation is still an ANC policy. Mbalula says if MK Party & EFF want to help ANC pass that bill in Parliament, they can approach the ANC.

Dada Morero, the ANC's regional chairperson, is expected to be appointed as the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg. This comes after Kabelo Gwamanda resigned earlier today. Calls for Gwamanda's resignation had been growing, with opposition parties and civil society organizations arguing that his leadership was marked by failure and that he lacked the qualifications to lead the country's largest metro. If appointed, Morero will be the 10th executive mayor of the city since the 2016 local government elections. ANC Gauteng Provincial Secretary Thembinkosi Nciza is facing the nation tonight. AND The number of unemployed persons increased in the second quarter, according to data from Stats SA. The official rate of unemployment rose to 33.5%, up from 32.9% in the first quarter. Service delivery in Ekurhuleni

Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza says the Democratic Alliance will be included in his executive in the interest of stability Xhakaza has now officially been in office for 100 days. When he came into office, he promised to stabilize the city and to resolve service delivery challenges. And The ANC in Tshwane has temporarily withdrawn Friday's planned motion of no-confidence against executive mayor, Cilliers Brink. This follows an urgent application by Brink filed in the Pretoria High Court to block the motion. He argues it's unlawful and that he is entitled to sufficient time to respond to the issues raised. DA Leader in Gauteng Solly Msimanga speaks to us. Minister Simelane VBS allegations, Auditor General's report

Anthony Matumba a member of EFF Central Command Team says the party is calling for the immediate resignation of Justice Minister Thembi Simelane. This follows allegations that she secured a loan of 500 thousand rand from a company that allegedly brokered investments of nearly 350 million rand by Polokwane municipality in the now-defunct VBS Mutual Bank in 2016 Simelane was serving as a Mayor of Polokwane when she allegedly secured the loan. Auditor General Tsakani Maluleke says Only 34 out of 257 municipalities received clean audits for 2022/23.

MK Party

The Umkhonto WeSizwe (MK) Party says deployees to parliament and legislature will not hold leadership positions in the party. This follows the announcement by former EFF Deputy President, Floyd Shivambu that he would be joining the MK Party last week. Secretary General of MK Party, Sifiso Maseko says Shivambu will not be going to parliament Shivambu is now the National Organiser of the party responsible for organising and developing of MKP organisational documents and guidelines, political education, policy and research, monitoring and evaluation of governance, particularly MKP caucuses. Additionally, Political Analyst Moeletsi Mbeki says the ANC is a declining institution and the BEE policies have cost the party voters.

Floyd Shivambu and Mzwanele Manyi dump EFF for MK Party

Co-founder of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Floyd Shivambu has dumped the party for the MK Party. Shivambu announced his resignation from the EFF during a media briefing. EFF MP Mzwanele Manyi has also dumped the party for the MK Party. Manyi joined the EFF in 2023 from the ATM. Political analyst Prince Mashele says Shivambu was the brains behind the EFF and the party is now left with Julius Malema who is just the face .

VBS Bank and Queen Modjadji series

The EFF allegedly received about R16 million in donations from the now defunct VBS Mutual Bank. This is according to an affidavit submitted by former VBS chairperson, Tshifhiwa Matodzi. Matodzi has been sentenced to an effective 15-year imprisonment after he entering into a plea agreement, pleading guilty to several charges that related to the collapse of the bank. Hawks Head Godfrey Lebeya says anyone, regardless of their political affiliations, who has had their hand in the cookie jar, will be visited. And Dr. Mathole Motshekga, representing the Balobedu Royal family of Modjadji says the airing of the "Queen Modjadji" series was never approved by the Balobedu family.
